For the Tofu:
- 14 oz (1 block) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
- 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
- Pinch of salt and pepper
For the Orange Sauce:
- ½ cup fresh orange juice (about 1 large orange)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
- 2 tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tsp water)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ½ tsp fresh ginger, grated
- Optional: a pinch of chili flakes for heat
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prep the tofu:
- Cut pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. Toss with soy sauce, cornstarch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Heat oil in a nonstick pan and cook tofu on all sides until golden brown and crisp. Remove and set aside.
- Make the sauce:
- In the same pan, sauté garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds.
- Add orange juice, soy sauce, maple syrup, and rice vinegar. Stir and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened and glossy.
- Combine:
- Add tofu back into the pan and toss to coat evenly in the sauce.
- Simmer for another 1–2 minutes to let the flavors soak in.
- Serve:
- Plate with steamed broccoli and jasmine rice. Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions.
