I stumbled upon this recipe by accident, and now it has a permanent place in my dinner rotation. Every bowl is packed with tender cabbage, smoky meats, hearty veggies, and a velvety broth that tastes like it simmered all day.

It’s simple, filling, and one of those recipes that tastes even better the next day.

✨ Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 lb cooked ham, cubed
  • 2 cups cabbage, chopped
  • 2–3 carrots, diced
  • 2–3 potatoes, diced (optional but delicious)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour (or cornstarch slurry for gluten-free)
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

🍲 Directions

  1. Sauté your veggies:
In a large pot, melt butter and cook onions, carrots, and cabbage until softened.
  2. Add the meats:
Stir in the smoked sausage and ham, letting them warm and release their flavors.
  3. Build the broth:
Add chicken broth, seasonings, and potatoes (if using).
Simmer 20–25 minutes until everything is tender.
  4. Make it creamy:
    Stir in heavy cream.
To thicken, whisk flour into a little warm broth, then add back into the pot.
